Hillary Clinton Statement On The Partnership To Fight Chronic Disease

"Our nation cannot effectively address the unsustainable health care cost and quality challenges we confront without first accurately diagnosing the primary drivers of the problem.

"The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease has done just this by highlighting the fact that two-thirds of the growth in national health spending is due to the rise in Americans being treated for a variety of largely chronic diseases that are preventable and manageable. More important than that, it has brought together an impressive broad-based, non-partisan coalition to develop and promote commonsense solutions to the challenges we face.

"The Partnership, under the able leadership of Dr. Ken Thorpe, is approaching this challenge in a way that can make a real difference in the lives of all Americans. I am proud to say that the policy vision that the Partnership is releasing today largely mirrors the approach that I have outlined and heartily endorse. I look forward to working with the Partnership, and with Ken and his partners to modernize our health care system to achieve our dual goals of preventing and treating chronic illness; with the Partnership's leadership and support, I know we can and will do just that."
